Integrity
The most important values for Damien Foundation are pluralism, independence, integrity, responsibility and respect. Damien Foundation defines itself as a non-profit organisation that is open to all and that rejects all forms of discrimination. It is independent politically, religiously and financially.
In June 2018 Damien Foundation signed the Integrity Charter for Belgian Development Cooperation and pledged to introduce instruments offering maximum guarantees of integrity, transparency and ethics.
Some of these mechanisms have been in place for some time. Regular audits are conducted, both internally at Damien Foundation’s headquarters and externally in the countries where we are active. Damien Foundation is also a member of the Belgian Association for Ethics in Fundraising.
In the context of our integrity policy, we have established a code of ethics. This document outlines the general principles and commitments that all employees and various stakeholders of Damien Foundation are required to follow.
Do you have a question regarding integrity? Or have you witnessed or been a victim of an integrity issue? You can report this to us via email at: ethics@damienfoundation.be.
Every report is handled with the utmost care and confidentiality. To be considered, a report must be made in good faith and include detailed information regarding the incident: facts, locations, dates, or other relevant data.
If the report meets the criteria for a formal complaint, our complaint manager will initiate the complaint handling procedure in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR 2016/679) approved by the European Parliament, and all other applicable laws.
Reporting 2025
In 2025, Damien Foundation received a report concerning a breach of moral integrity in one of its projects. This report was followed up and led to an investigation.
In 2026, we will continue our efforts regarding integrity and focus on awareness-raising, training, and the management of reports across all our offices.
